American biotechnology company at Cambridge in Massachusetts, founded in 2016 out of work at MIT on encapsulation materials, which developed its Shielded Living Therapeutics platform. Engineered cells to make therapeutic proteins and enclosed them in spheres designed to avoid the body's foreign body response, with programmes in haemophilia and type one diabetes run with Eli Lilly, which bought the company in 2023.
