A recent analysis of nationwide pharmacy licensing data reveals a noticeable change in how Korean pharmacies brand themselves. Historically, many pharmacies chose names that emphasized a friendly image, using words such as “health,” “love,” or “happiness.”
In contrast, newer establishments are increasingly adopting names that directly reflect their operating characteristics or size, examples being “365” and “Mega.”
The study, conducted by 약사공론, examined 25,862 pharmacies that were listed as “operating/normal” as of September 7, 2026. By categorizing the pharmacies according to their opening year—pre‑1999, 2000‑2009, 2010‑2014, and later—the researchers identified the trend toward more functional, scale‑oriented naming conventions.
These findings highlight an evolving market perception where business identity and scale are becoming prominent factors in pharmacy branding.
