MHRA Review Highlights RF Safety Issues in Wireless CTG Monitors

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has completed a review of wireless cardiotocography (CTG) monitoring systems that transmit data via radio‑frequency (RF) telemetry channels. The review found that these devices can experience signal crossover, produce erroneous CTG traces, and suffer signal dropouts, which may affect the reliability of fetal monitoring. The MHRA advises manufacturers and healthcare providers to consider these safety concerns when deploying wireless CTG systems and to implement appropriate mitigation measures to ensure accurate and continuous fetal monitoring.
