E.S. is an evolutionary geneticist, computational biologist, and data scientist, born to Theoklitos Spanakis and Sophia Bekiou in Athens, Greece, in 1953 and currently based in Paris, France. He earned his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Patras and a PhD in evolutionary genetics from the University of Stirling, Scotland, having received two national scholarships from the Greek Government. His scientific work encompasses genetic–environmental interactions and microevolution, spanning from the molecular to the population and ecosystem levels, with additional interests in epistemology, methodology, and the development of analytical tools for genetic data. Over the course of his academic career, he has held fellowships from the Greek Government, the European Commission, and the Welcome Trust, and conducted research at leading institutions including the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (Greece), St George’s Hospital Medical School, University College London, the University of Southampton, INSERM, Université Sorbonne–Paris-Nord (France), and the Mario Negri Institute (Italy). Since 2001, he has applied his interdisciplinary expertise in the industrial sector, contributing to pharmaceutical discovery at Sanofi R&D in France. In recent years, he has expanded his scientific inquiry into the domain of language. Drawing on his background in evolutionary theory and systems analysis, he has independently studied historical linguistics, the archaeology of alphabetic writing, and the literary interpretation of Greek mythology. His research challenges prevailing models in linguistics and proposes alternative readings of ancient texts grounded in structural, graphical, and semantic analysis. He is proficient in Greek, English, and French, and has good reading and listening comprehension in Spanish and Italian.
