Dr. Graham Jones is the former Chief Toxicologist for the Alberta Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He originally qualified as a Pharmacist in the U.K. and later earned his Ph.D. degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry (Drug Metabolism), from Chelsea College at the University of London. Dr. Jones subsequently moved to Canada to take up a fellowship at the University of Alberta, later joining the University of Alberta Hospital as a Clinical Toxicologist. In 1981 he joined the Alberta Office of the Chief Medical Examiner as director of the new forensic toxicology laboratory. He currently has an adjunct position as Clinical Professor, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta. Dr. Jones has been very active in his profession, and is a member of several professional organizations in Canada, the U.K. and the U.S.A. He is a past-President of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS), past-President of the Society of Forensic Toxicologists, past-President of the Forensic Specialties Accreditation Board, and Chair of the Laboratory Accreditation Program of the American Board of Forensic Toxicology. He is also a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Analytical Toxicology and the Journal of Forensic Sciences. Dr. Jones has been a leader in the development of professional standards for the forensic toxicology profession for over 25 years. Dr. Jones has served as a consultant and expert witness in several toxicology-related murder trials in both Canada and the USA.
