Dr Marise Gauci is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Malta. She contributes to the pharmacy practice teaching programme of courses leading to a degree of Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Science, Master of Pharmacy and a Doctorate in Pharmacy programme offered by the University of Malta in collaboration with the University of Illinois at Chicago. She leads a research group with a focus on medicines optimisation in older patients including deprescribing, pharmacovigilance aspects and continuity of care across health care settings. She is active in disseminating practice research outcomes to support evolvement of practice locally, in Europe and internationally. Dr Gauci is a Senior Principal Pharmacist at Karin Grech Hospital in Malta, a rehabilitation hospital for older patients, where she was responsible for setting up clinical pharmacy services and heads the clinical pharmacy team. As a teacher practitioner she has developed a programme that provides local and overseas students an opportunity to observe patient-focused clinical pharmacy activities in an interdisciplinary health care team and participate in developing pharmaceutical care action plans.
