Biografía

Sheila Ampaire, a dedicated and highly skilled pharmacist and regulatory expert, hails from Uganda. Her journey in the field of pharmacy began at Mbarara University of Science and Technology, where she earned her Bachelor of Pharmacy degree in 2013. Eager to make a significant impact in healthcare, Sheila pursued further studies, obtaining a Master of Public Health in Health Promotion from Uganda Martyrs’ University and a Master of Science in Clinical Trials from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Sheila's career is marked by her commitment to advancing public health and ensuring the safety and efficacy of medical products. She currently serves as the Principal Regulatory Officer-Research at the Uganda National Drug Authority (NDA), a role she has held since February 2023. In this position, Sheila leads operational research initiatives that inform regulatory decisions and guide the Authority's approach to regulating medicines, public health products, and medical devices. Her work involves developing research protocols, collecting and analyzing data, and disseminating findings to various stakeholders. Sheila's leadership and expertise have been instrumental in securing the prestigious Capacity 2023 EDCTP Grant, underscoring her ability to drive impactful projects. Prior to her current role, Sheila worked as a Regulatory Officer at the NDA from 2017 to 2023. During this time, she evaluated clinical trial applications, conducted Good Clinical Practice inspections, and developed technical guidance documents. Her efforts were pivotal in protecting clinical trial participants and enhancing Uganda's clinical trials regulatory framework. Sheila's experience extends beyond regulatory roles. From 2015 to 2017, she served as the Chief Pharmacist at International Hospital Kampala, where she led the Pharmacy Department, managed drug inventories, and ensured the availability of essential medications. Her leadership and dedication to patient care were evident as she supervised a team of 14 and participated in ward rounds, contributing to improved patient outcomes. Her professional development includes numerous trainings and workshops, such as those organized by the US FDA, European Medicines Agency, and the World Health Organization. These experiences have equipped Sheila with a deep understanding of pharmacovigilance, clinical trial inspections, and regulatory best practices. In addition to her professional achievements, Sheila is an active member of her community. She has been involved in organizing Annual Medical Missions through New City Life Church in Kampala, demonstrating her commitment to giving back and improving healthcare access at the grassroots level. Sheila's contributions to the field of pharmacy and clinical trials are also reflected in her publications, which address critical issues in drug safety and clinical trials regulation. Her research and insights have been shared in reputable journals, influencing policy and practice in Uganda and beyond. Sheila Ampaire's dedication to improving public health, her expertise in regulatory affairs, and her commitment to community service make her a respected and influential figure in the healthcare sector. Her work continues to drive advancements in the regulation and safety of medical products, ensuring better health outcomes for communities in Uganda and across the region.
