Dr. Abdul Majid, Associate Professor, has 33 years career of research, development, and teaching in Department of Computer and Information Sciences at Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), Islamabad. He received MSc degree in Electronics from Quaid-i-Azam University in 1991. He obtained his MS and PhD degrees in Computer Systems Engineering from GIK Institute, in 2003 and 2006, respectively. He has completed his Post-Doc Research in the Department of Mechatronics, GIST, South Korea, in 2010.
Research emphasis on AI/ML based intelligent systems design, data-driven modeling, and AI-enabled solutions for complex real-world problems in Bioinformatics and Biomedical, Signal and Image Processing, Watermarking and Data Security.
• Drug Discovery and Repurposing for Viral Infections: In silico drug screening, molecular docking, and virtual screening techniques to identify therapeutic candidates for a range of viral diseases.
• Disease Prediction using Genomic and Proteomic Sequential Data: Development of machine learning and deep learning algorithms to predict diseases based on DNA, RNA, and protein sequence information.
• Bioinformatics & Biomedical Engineering: Application of AI and computational tools in the analysis of biological data for healthcare, disease modeling, and biomarker discovery.
• AI/ML Applications in Pattern Recognition: Utilization of neural networks, support vector machines, and deep learning for medical image analysis, classification, and diagnostic support.
• Digital Signal and Image Processing: Signal filtering, enhancement, segmentation, and classification techniques applied to biomedical signals and images.
• Watermarking and Data Security in Digital Media: Research on secure and imperceptible watermarking methods for protecting integrity and confidentiality in medical and multimedia data.
His research areas include pattern recognition, image processing, medical image fusion, and machine learning.
His prominent research includes the development of intelligent decision support system for medical diseases. He is on the panel of reviewers of internationally reputed journals in the field of computer science.
