Experienced physician executive (MD & EMBA/MMM), American board certified and licensed rheumatologist, with over 25 years global medical experience including 20+ years in the USA at various healthcare organizations and pharmaceutical companies, combined with consulting, research, publications, and speaking engagements. With roles of expanding scope and responsibilities in the pharmaceutical industry, currently he is a senior director for therapeutic expertise at PRA Health Sciences & managing director of the Lupus Central Review Services (LCRS) group. Previously, he was the global medical lead for Rheumatology & Immuno-oncology including a device and drug combination therapy (Therakos) at Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals (MNK), a regional director at Cardinal Health/naviHealth, an executive director at Horizon Pharma, a medical director at Takeda Pharmaceuticals, and Pharmaceutical Product Development (PPD). Currently, he collaborates with PRA teams and clients in developing global therapeutic product strategies and development plans, while working closely with business development to win new business and serving as a therapeutic expert in GI and Rheumatology. At LCRS (PRA), he manages a team of 17 data managers and physicians with a focus on supporting lupus and Sjogren’s RCTs with over 10 years’ experience in outcomes’ adjudication services. At MNK, he was the medical lead for various clinical immunology, immune-oncology, and inflammation programs in Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Scleroderma, Gout, CTCL, GvHD, IBD, and SOT/BOS. At Horizon Pharma he was the medical lead for Lupus and RA. At Takeda, he was the medical lead for several phase 1-4 programs in Gout, familial Mediterranean Fever/Auto-inflammatory Syndromes, Lupus, RA, and CKD, including HEOR projects in Gout and CKD/CV/Inflammation. At PPD he participated in various pharmacovigilance and business development programs in Clinical Immunology/Inflammation, CV, and Pulmonary Medicine. He has extensive experience in medical affairs, outcomes research, clinical development (phases I-IV), pharmacovigilance, regulatory reviews, data generation and dissemination, FDA and regulatory submissions and responses, sales training, and business development.
While serving as the chief of rheumatology at the University of Florida, he was responsible for establishing and leading various programs including several multi-million dollar operational and research budgets, and cross-functional teams. He was the principal investigator for numerous clinical trials in SLE, Scleroderma, Pulmonary Hypertension, and RA. As a seasoned speaker with extensive experience directing CME and advisory board meetings and functions, he was a speaker and consultant for more than 10 pharmaceutical companies.
Well published author with publications in top journals such as Arthritis & Rheumatism, BMJ, book chapters and online publications with several media appearances. Presented at national and international meetings. He is a member and proactively involved in several local, national, and international professional societies.
