Associate Professor (PI), Graduate School of Advanced Integrated Studies in Human Survivability (GSAIS, “Shishu-kan”), Kyoto University. Head, Well-being Research Division, Social Innovation Center (SIC). Kenji Mizumoto leads the Global Health Design Research Group, where he studies infectious disease dynamics and societal health challenges. His work integrates individual- and population-level risk analysis using interdisciplinary approaches spanning infectious disease epidemiology, epidemiological/mathematical modeling, statistics, machine learning, sero-epidemiology, and high-resolution sensing (e.g., ultra-wideband [UWB] positioning). His core contributions include: Modeling transmission dynamics to inform public health decision-making Empirical measurement of close-contact patterns and behavior using high-resolution sensing Evaluation and implementation of interventions, including non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) and screening/testing strategies He has led data analyses for large-scale field studies in Okinawa Prefecture, including school-based RT-PCR screening and regional serosurveys, and has contributed to estimating reproduction numbers and asymptomatic infection rates in high-risk settings such as cruise ships. As Head of the SIC Well-being Division, he advances applied research in global health, disaster response, and child abuse prevention, and promotes academia–industry collaboration through the Evidact project to support evidence-based implementation of healthcare solutions.
