Researcher

Vassilis G. Koutkias received the Diploma in Electrical & Computer Engineering (1998) and the MSc (2001) and PhD (2005) in Medical Informatics all from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Greece. His research interests lie in the area of Biomedical Informatics and eHealth, with emphasis on knowledge engineering in biomedicine, clinical decision support systems, as well as pervasive health systems, with major application areas drug safety and personalized healthcare. He is currently a Researcher with the Institute of Applied Biosciences (INAB), Centre of Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH), working in the domain of “Biomedical Informatics with emphasis on drug safety systems”. From 2013-2015, he was granted an individual Marie Curie fellowship for experienced researchers (the SAFER project: http://safer-project.eu), with INSERM (Institut National de la Santé et de la RechercheMédicale), U1142, LIMICS, Paris, FRANCE. Since 2000, he conducted R&D in more than 16 large-scale EU-funded R&D projects in the fields of patient safety, personal health systems, Ambient Assisted Living and eInclusion, as well as security of health data, with the Lab of Medical Informatics, AUTH, INSERM, and the Institute of Applied Biosciences, CERTH. He is lecturing and coordinating modules at the MSc Program of Medical Informatics at AUTH, while he has been also appointed as a Visiting Lecturer in University Paris 6 (UPMC), and as Adjunct Lecturer in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Hellenic Open University, and the University of Western Macedonia. He is co-author of one book, co-editor of two books (Springer and IOS Press), co-editor of one electronic volume and author/co-author of more than 150 papers in peer-reviewed international journals, book series and conference proceedings. He currently serves at the Editorial Board of the Drug Safety journal, as Associate Editor for the BMC Medical Informatics & Decision Making journal and as Editor for the Decision Support section of the IMIA Yearbook. Dr. Koutkias is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE), as well as a Member of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) and the Technical Chamber of Greece.
