Agouron Pharmaceuticals

American biotechnology company at La Jolla in San Diego, founded in 1984 as one of the first companies built on structure based drug design. Developed the HIV protease inhibitor nelfinavir, sold as Viracept, and worked on cancer compounds, was bought by Warner-Lambert in 1999 for about two billion dollars and became part of Pfizer in 2000, its San Diego laboratories continuing as a Pfizer research site that produced later cancer medicines.
