Portuguese research unit of the University of Coimbra covering mechanical engineering, materials and processes, formed by merging earlier mechanical engineering and materials centres. Works on surface engineering and thin film coatings, materials characterisation and tribology, polymers and composites, manufacturing and forming processes, energy and sustainability and biomechanics and biomaterials, with laboratories offering characterisation and testing services and joint projects with industry including medical device and implant work.
