Central Leather Research Institute

Indian national research institute at Adyar in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, founded in 1948 and part of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the world's largest leather research institute. Researches leather processing, tanning chemicals and effluent treatment, and also works on collagen and biomaterials for medical use including wound dressings and tissue engineering scaffolds, runs analytical and biological laboratories with testing services for the leather and chemical industries and teaches doctoral students.
