Swedish public university in Gothenburg, founded in 1891 as a university college and made a university in 1954, one of the largest in the Nordic countries. Its Sahlgrenska Academy runs the institutes of medicine, biomedicine, neuroscience and physiology, clinical sciences and health and care sciences, teaching pharmacy and medicine and carrying out research in pharmacology, drug metabolism, molecular medicine and clinical trials with the Sahlgrenska University Hospital, and the university also runs chemistry and molecular biology departments.
