Japanese national university with its main campus at Higashihiroshima and a medical campus at Kasumi in Hiroshima, founded in 1949 by merging older colleges including the Hiroshima University of Literature and Science. Teaches medicine, dentistry and pharmaceutical sciences through the Graduate School of Biomedical and Health Sciences with its own university hospital, together with science, engineering, integrated arts and sciences and agriculture, and carries out research in drug discovery and pharmacology, radiation biology and the health of atomic bomb survivors, regenerative medicine and materials science.
