American company founded in 1990 at Palo Alto and later San Carlos in California, which developed dry powder formulations and devices for delivering medicines to the lungs. Worked with Pfizer on the inhaled insulin product Exubera and with other partners on inhaled proteins and small molecules, bought Bradford Particle Design and Shearwater Corporation in 2001 to add particle engineering and polymer conjugation, and took the Nektar Therapeutics name in 2003.
