British public university in Newcastle upon Tyne, whose roots lie in colleges of the eighteen eighties and which became a university in 1992, with campuses in the city centre and at Coach Lane and a site in London. Teaches through the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences with applied sciences covering biomedical science, chemistry and forensic science, nursing and midwifery and psychology, and carries out research in drug discovery and medicinal chemistry, microbiology and antimicrobial resistance, nutrition and sport and exercise science with its own laboratories.
