Sets global health policy and norms, publishes the Model List of Essential Medicines, good manufacturing practice and quality guidelines and the International Classification of Diseases, runs the prequalification programme for medicines, vaccines and diagnostics used in United Nations procurement, coordinates outbreak response and immunisation programmes and supports member states in medicines regulation and health system strengthening.
