A research team from the University of São Paulo in Brazil compared two physical‑activity approaches in patients with moderate to severe asthma. The investigators reported that simply increasing daily walking to more than 1,000 steps yielded improvements in respiratory symptoms and overall quality of life, effects similar to those obtained from regular aerobic exercise.
The study highlighted that many asthma patients avoid exercise for fear of breathlessness, yet modest increases in everyday activity can be beneficial for disease management. Participants who met the walking target experienced measurable relief in symptom severity.
These findings were published in the peer‑reviewed journal Pulmonology.
