was born and raised in Belarus, and moved to the United States in 2003. Before going to pharmacy school, she worked in the hospitality business and real estate. This showcased her personality and communication skills, but she desired to impact people’s lives in a more meaningful way. In 2010, she started her journey of education at State College of Florida (SCF) and in 2013 graduated with Associates in Arts, summa cum laude. While attending SCF, she took a pharmacy technician course and became a Certified Pharmacy Technician. Although she never worked as a technician, it played a vital role in her decision to become a pharmacist. In May 2013, LCDR Korbut was accepted to LECOM School of Pharmacy. During pharmacy school, LCDR Korbut learned about the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) through a meeting with a USPHS officer at the school career fair. In the summer of 2015, she applied to the USPHS and was accepted into the Junior Commissioned Officer Externship Program (JRCOSTEP) to serve the American Indian population of the Navajo Nation in Fort Defiance, AZ. During that time, she discovered where her heart belongs and her future direction. In the summer of 2016, LCDR Korbut completed a second JRCOSTEP internship at Yakama Service Unit in Washington State and prepared herself for her future residency with Indian Health Service (IHS). Upon her graduation in 2017 with a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree, LCDR Korbut was fortunate to be accepted into one of the longest running IHS Pharmacy residency programs at Cherokee Nation W.W. Hastings Hospital in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Upon completion of her residency in 2018, LCDR Korbut was offered a position as a clinical pharmacist at Cherokee Nation W.W. Hastings Hospital and was able to continue her Commissioned Corps career. During her residency she spearheaded the use of Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) for our >250 uncontrolled diabetic patients (A1C>9%) within the pharmacy Intensive Diabetes Mellitus Service (2019-2021). LCDR Korbut took a role as Acting Intensive Diabetes Clinic Manager with the Cherokee Nation Outpatient Health Center in Tahlequah and established new strategies to accommodate patients during COVID-19 and she designed and implemented a new patient-provider model, which assigns patients to a specific pharmacist to allow development of better patient-provider relationships and more consistent care plans. LCDR Korbut’s passion about reaching out to our community and the need for public health education continued to grow with the establishment of the Northeastern Oklahoma Surgeon General’s Education Team (SGET). US Surgeon General, Jerome Adams, appointed LCDR Korbut to serve as the Team Lead for the Northeastern Oklahoma Surgeon General’s Education Team (SGET) and recruited 24 multi-disciplinary officers to deliver public health educational sessions. In the 2020- 2021 term, the NEOK SGET hosted 15 presentations educating over 1000 middle, high school, and college-aged students on vaping and opioid misuse. In 2019, she was awarded Junior Pharmacist of the Year award by IHS Oklahoma City Area Meeting. She truly enjoys her work and inspires others to apply for residency and join the Indian Health Team. LCDR Korbut is married and has two wonderful daughters and a new baby son, who always have been a part of her pharmacy life.
