Dr. Fatemeh Elahian, a distinguished researcher in pharmaceutical biotechnology, earned her Pharm.D. from Tehran University of Medical Sciences in 2002, with a strong focus on pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry-related courses, quality control management, and GMP/GLP guidelines. In 2010, she completed her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, where she gained extensive expertise in molecular biology techniques, including genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics. To further expand her research expertise, she spent a year in Germany collaborating with University Medicine Berlin focusing on gene silencing techniques in cancers. From 2010 to 2014, she began her academic career as an assistant professor at Zanjan University of Medical Sciences. From 2014 to 2022, she held associate professor position at Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences. In 2022, she moved to the United States and joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Houston as a volunteer research scientist working on nano-carriers for drug delivery. In August 2022, she joined to Baylor College of Medicine, where she has been involved in cutting-edge stem cell research. Her research primarily focuses on cancer biology, with a particular emphasis on overcoming multidrug resistance (MDR) in cancer treatment. She has designed and led multiple projects aimed at reversing MDR-mediated drug resistance by investigating its cellular and molecular mechanisms, screening natural products, and developing targeted gene delivery strategies for cancer cell lines. At Baylor College of Medicine, she has expanded her expertise into the field of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and stem cell research, including iPSC reprogramming, differentiation, and the computational analyses required to address technical challenges in the field. Throughout her research, she has worked extensively with a broad range of experimental and computational techniques in genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics. These include cell culture, stem cell culture, RNA and DNA isolation, protein extraction, viral transfection strategies, CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing, targeted gene delivery, PCR, real-time PCR, immunocytochemistry, western blotting, flow cytometry, and cell sorting. This diverse skill set has provided her with a comprehensive understanding of both the technical challenges and emerging opportunities in cancer and stem cell research.
