René Rodríguez obtained his PhD in Mol. Biology in the Univ. of Oviedo (Spain) in 2002. Subsequently he joined the Univ. of Sheffield (UK) as a post-doctoral research associate (2003-2007) to work in the study of the DNA damage response. Then, he initiated a new phase of 5 years (2007-2012) in which he successively joined the Andalusian Stem Cell Bank (Granada, Spain) and Genyo (Granada). In these two Centers he specialized in mesenchymal stem cells research and sarcoma modeling and started to lead his own projects as a Senior Researcher. Between 2012 and 2020 Rene Rodriguez held a Senior Scientist-Principal Researcher position (Miguel Servet (MS) I & II - ISCIII Program) at the Health Research Institute of Asturias (ISPA) (Oviedo, Spain) where he started to lead projects aimed at the search for new therapeutic targets and the development of personalized medicine strategies in sarcomas. After finishing his MS Program in 2020, he has been promoted to team leader and is the current Head of the Sarcoma and Experimental Therapeutics group at ISPA. In 2026, he was appointed as a Staff Scientist at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), joining the Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology Research Center (CINN), also affiliated with the Health Research Institute of Asturias (ISPA). Dr. Rodríguez is author of more than 60 articles in top-tier journals such as Cancer Research, Cell Research, J Nanobiotech, EBiomedicine, Redox Biol or Cell Death & Diff. 58 of these articles have been published in Q1 journals (28 in D1) and Dr. Rodríguez was main author in 35 articles. These publications have a cumulative IF of 413.2 and have received more than 4000 citations, reaching an h-index of 31. In addition, he has contributed 9 patents and has led 1 international, 8 national (5 from AEI Calls) and 7 regional projects. Finally, he has supervised 7 PhD Thesis.
