Kojic acid dipalmitate is a chelating derivative of kojic acid, produced through multi-component synthesis and appearing as a white to off-white crystalline powder. It mildly inhibits pigment formation in plant and animal tissue and is used in food and cosmetics to preserve or alter coloring, offering greater stability against light, heat and metal ions than kojic acid itself. It also has antioxidant activity, helping scavenge free radicals and support cell function, and inhibits tyrosinase synthesis to reduce melanin secretion. Being liposoluble, it is well absorbed by skin, making it a common ingredient in skin-whitening cosmetics.
