Biomedical Sciences – Mechanisms of Disease

Dorin Surucean concluded his Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences – Mechanisms of Disease in November 2025 at the University of Algarve, Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (UAlg – FMCB). Dorin master’s thesis, titled “Temporal Control of Mesoderm Patterning Mediated by Brachyury (TbxT)”, focused on two main objectives: 1. Characterize the dynamic expression of a gene associated with the embryonic molecular clock both in vitro and in vivo in mouse models and (2) Asses the functional role of Brachyury (TbxT) in controlling HOX gene expression during chick gastrulation (in vivo). In July 2023, Dorin earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at UAlg - FMCB. His undergraduate thesis, titled “Expression of the Molecular Clock Gene hairy1 in the Chicken Embryo Limb”, had the objectives to investigate: (1) Whether the hairy1 gene exhibits cyclic expression and to characterize its periodicity during limb development, as well as its expression domains, and (2) Analize the expression of the rfng gene during limb development.
