Résumé professionnel

Prof. Eva Estébanez-Perpiñá studied at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), where she obtained simultaneously her bachelor degrees in Biochemistry and Psychology. She is expert in Structural Biology (X-ray crystallography) and also complementary biochemical-biophysical techniques (Surface plasmon resonance, XL-MS), in addition of a background in Neurosciences. She did her Ph.D. Thesis under the supervision of the 1988-Chemistry Nobel Laureate Prof. Robert Huber and Prof. Wolfram Bode at the Max-Planck-Institut fuer Biochemie in Martinsried (MPI, München, Germany) at the Dept of Structural Biology (Strukturforschung), where she graduated in 2002 having solved the crystal structures of human serine proteases called Granzymes A, B and the zymogen of K. During her PhD studies in Germany, she was also visiting scientist at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver (Canada) in the lab of Prof. Ross McGillivray. After a 1-year postdoctoral period at the MPI-Germany, she joined as postdoctoral fellow in 2003 the lab of Prof. Robert J. Fletterick at the University California, San Francisco (UCSF) to study the structure-function relationships of nuclear receptors, where she collaborated with Prof. John D. Baxter´s Lab and published pioneer work on the allosteric regulation of the human Androgen and Thyroid Receptors and she discovered and coined the term BF3 pocket. In 2009, she started her independent lab as PI at the Institute of Biomedicine, University of Barcelona (IBUB) as a Ramón y Cajal and Marie Curie IRG Fellow. Her lab is located at the Barcelona Science Parc (PCB) and belongs to the Biochemistry and Molecular Biomedicine Dept of the Faculty of Biology UB. Her group solved the first crystal structure of the human Androgen Receptor ligand binding domain dimer and has unearthed novel atomic determinants of the Glucocorticoid Receptor dimerization and tetramerization pathways. She collaborates regularly with international pharmaceutical companies (USA, Germany, Spain) in translational drug-validation projects. She has been visiting professor at the NIH in Bethesda USA at the Prof. Gordon L. Hager lab of Gene Regulation. Collaborates currently with academic groups located in USA, UK, Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Israel, China and Spain. She is a permanent Professor Serra Hunter since February 2015. She teaches Design and Evaluation of Bioactive Molecules and Macromolecular Structure at the Degrees of Biology and Biochemistry of the Faculty of Biology (UB), and Master of Biotechnology (Faculty of Pharmacy, UB) and also taught at the UAB and UB Faculties of Psychology and Chemistry (EMQAL Erasmus Mundus). She has directed 4 Thesis and 3 more currently in progress, over 20 TFM and 20 TFG students. Eva is native speaker in Spanish & Catalan; and proficient in English (Cambridge Proficiency) & German.
