Pharmacy Sign Misused in Fraud, Court Sentences Perpetrator to 1.5 Years

Pharmacy signs bearing a pharmacist’s name are traditionally viewed as a mark of trust. In this case, the same information was used as a tool for fraud. The defendant, identified as A, examined signs at pharmacies, churches and hospitals to obtain individuals’ names. He then approached the victims pretending to be a former classmate and claimed he had been pickpocketed and had no money, thereby extracting cash from them. The Incheon District Court Bucheon branch convicted A of fraud and imposed a custodial sentence of one year and six months.
