The Ministry of the Interior and Safety analyzed nationwide pharmacy licensing data and found that from January to September 2024, roughly 600 pharmacies were recorded as “closed.”
Among these closures, 124 pharmacies had been licensed for 20 years or more, representing 20.7% of the total closed pharmacies. This indicates that one in five pharmacies that shut down this year had a long operational history, highlighting that not only newly opened pharmacies are closing but also long‑standing community pharmacies are ending operations.
