Member of the National Assembly’s Health and Welfare Committee, Park Yong‑gap (Democratic Party, Daejeon Jung‑gu), announced on the 1st that he will lead the filing of a Food Hygiene Act amendment. The proposal seeks to support the overseas expansion of Korea’s food industry, which is expected to achieve a record‑high export value of $13.62 billion (approximately ₥18 trillion) in 2025, driven by the spread of Korean culture.
The amendment would create a legal basis for activities such as collecting and analysing foreign food‑related regulatory information and providing guidance needed for market entry. It also calls for the establishment of a consultative body to identify and resolve difficulties faced by exporters, including issues related to non‑tariff barriers and certification requirements such as halal.
If passed, the revised law would give Korean food producers clearer support mechanisms for entering overseas markets and help mitigate non‑tariff obstacles that currently hinder export growth.
