Korean Society of Obesity Urges National Management Policy for Adult Obesity

Adult obesity should be regarded not merely as personal weight management but as a chronic disease and a national public‑health problem, experts said. They noted that obesity drives higher medical costs, reduces quality of life, and causes productivity losses, creating a substantial socioeconomic burden. The Korean Society of Obesity, led by Chairman Kim Min‑sun, argued that treatment accessibility must be expanded and a nationwide management framework established. The society presented these views during a special policy session titled “Exploring National Obesity‑Management Measures,” held on September 3 at the Conrad Hotel in Seoul, the opening day of the International Congress on Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome (ICOMES).
