The National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) and the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service (HIRA) identified cases of unauthorized personal information viewing and external transfer by employees.
According to a disciplinary explanation submitted to the National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee by Democratic Party lawmaker Heo Jong‑sik, a grade‑5 NHIS employee (identified as “A”) accessed the agency’s computer system from December 2020 to November 2023. Over that period, A viewed personal data of family members, a former girlfriend and an apartment‑sale counterpart a total of 62 times, motivated by curiosity.
The NHIS imposed a three‑month suspension on A on 3 May 2024. The report also references a grade‑4 manager, but further details were not provided.
