Onnuri has issued an official response to a joint public inquiry submitted by the pharmacist societies of Gwangju, Gyeonggi, and Gangwon provinces. The inquiry questioned the business model of Mega Onnuri pharmacies, which are larger‑format stores that differ from traditional Onnuri member pharmacies, and sought clarification on the role of the Onnuri head office in their operation.
In its answer, Onnuri emphasized that Mega Onnuri pharmacies are run by independent pharmacists under a franchise model. The company explained the functions of the head office and described the sub‑lease (전대차) structure that supports the franchise arrangement. The controversy originated when the first Mega Onnuri pharmacy opened, prompting concerns within the pharmacist community about the nature of the model and the involvement of the central organization.
The regional pharmacist societies submitted a joint public inquiry on August 11, seeking transparent information about the franchise system and the head office’s responsibilities.
