The investigation employed human brain microvascular endothelial cells, endothelial cells sourced from diabetic patients, animal models subjected to ultrafine particle exposure, and post‑mortem brain tissue from patients with vascular dementia. These diverse models were used to assess the combined impact of ultrafine particles and diabetes on cerebral vascular health.
Results were published in an international scientific journal, confirming that diabetes may exacerbate the adverse vascular effects of air‑borne ultrafine particles.
