Ecuadorian private university at Cumbayá in the Quito valley, founded in 1988 and the country's first liberal arts university. Its College of Health Sciences teaches medicine, nursing, dentistry, nutrition and veterinary medicine and it also has a College of Biological and Environmental Sciences, running research in tropical and infectious disease, microbiology and antimicrobial resistance, genomics and natural products of the Andes and Amazon through institutes including its microbiology institute and the Galápagos science centre, together with a teaching hospital.
