Environmental regulator of the United States federal government, created in 1970 and based in Washington DC with regional offices and research laboratories across the country. Regulates pesticides, industrial chemicals and pollutants under the pesticide, toxic substances, clean air, clean water and drinking water laws, reviews toxicology and exposure data to register pesticides and assess new chemicals, publishes risk assessments and the integrated risk information system, and runs its own research and development laboratories including computational toxicology and new approach methodologies.
