American public historically black land grant university at Ettrick near Petersburg in Virginia, founded in 1882. Teaches through its College of Natural and Health Sciences with chemistry, biology, nursing and psychology and colleges of agriculture, engineering and technology, business and education, runs pre-pharmacy and pre-medical preparation, and carries out research in agriculture, food science and the biological sciences through its agricultural research station and laboratories.
