Korean-Japan Manga/Webtoon Delegation Explores IP Collaboration in Tokyo

The Korean‑Japan manga and webtoon cultural exchange delegation conducted a three‑day visit to Japan from July 5 to July 7. The mission aimed to explore the potential for expanding IP‑based industries that originate from manga and webtoon content in both countries and to identify a mutually beneficial growth model that connects cultural policy, industry cooperation, and the creative ecosystem. Delegates included Se‑young‑seok, a member of the "Manga/Webtoon Lovers" parliamentary group, and Kim Jae‑won, a parliamentary aide, as well as Joo Dong‑geun, the original webtoon author of "Now Our School Is," which achieved the #1 spot globally on Netflix. The group also met Japanese counterparts, including creators behind a series that ranked #2 on Disney+ Japan. The visit focused on discussing collaborative opportunities, sharing best practices, and laying groundwork for future joint projects that could strengthen the IP landscape across Korea and Japan.
