This will be realized through a multi-disciplinary environment that encourages initiative, creativity, inquiry and knowledge sharing culminating into a position of leadership. RESEARCH INTEREST Dr. Maima’s major research interest is to help improve the effectiveness of infectious disease prevention and treatment in East Africa by engaging in innovative systems for proper nutrition, socio-economic development and timely public health interventions. His approach is to work in a multi-disciplinary environment that encourages initiative, creativity, inquiry and knowledge sharing, and evaluation of progress through use of implementation research techniques. KEY QUALIFICATIONS Dr. Maima is currently an Associate Professor of Pharmacy and the Dean, School of Pharmacy, Maseno University. He is a former Dean and Program Leader of the School of Pharmacy & Health Sciences at the United States International University (USIU)-Africa. He is a Fellow of the Centre for Effective Global Action (CEGA) based at the University of California, Berkeley, and a member of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH). He represented the Kenyan Academia at the first International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) Global Conference on Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Education held on 7-9 November 2016 in Nanjing, People’s Republic of China. He is also a Trained PhD Supervisor. He is a Pharmaceutical Analyst; Public Health Specialist & Epidemiologist; Implementation Research Scientist; Registered Pharmacist in Kenya & Good Standing Member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya; and Registered and contracted Assessor /Expert with the Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS). He is also a member of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP); and a holder of the United States FPGEE (Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination) Certificate. He has been a member of the Experts /Specialization Committee of the Pharmacy & Poisons Board of Kenya since 2018. Before then he had been a member of the Training and Assessment Technical Committee of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya from 2012 to 2018. He is also the current Editor-in-Chief of the Pharmaceutical Journal of Kenya. He served as the Chief Pharmacist (and Lecturer) at the University of Nairobi for 15 years and also taught Pharmacy and Alternative Medicine students at Kenyatta University between 2008 and 2009. Dr. Maima was a member of the Ministerial Committee (Ministry of Medical Services, Government of Kenya) that prepared the Kenya National Pharmaceutical Policy (KNPP) in 2010. He has also been a Member of the Board of Management of the National Quality Control Laboratories (January 2015 – July 2016). POST-GRADUATE TRAINING He undertook the DIES/CREST Online Course for Doctoral Supervisors at African Universities of Stellenbosch University, Republic of South Africa (Oct 2018 – Feb 2019). Dr. Maima underwent Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Implementation Research at University of California (UC) Berkeley in 2018 Fall.  He is now a fellow under the Infectious Disease in East Africa: A Behavioral and Economic Research Collaborative (IDEA-BERC), which forms a part of the greater Centre for Effective Global Action (CEGA). The IDEA-BERC training program aims to improve the effectiveness of infectious disease prevention and treatment in East Africa, by offering training in the emerging field of implementation research. Dr. Maima has a Certificate on the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) of May 2018 on Implementation Research (IR), with a focus on Infectious Diseases of Poverty (IDP). This Course has been developed and organized jointly with the International Institute of Global Health, the United Nations University (UNUIIGH), the Monash University, Malaysia and the WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR). Maima is a holder of a PhD in Community Health and Development from the Great Lakes University of Kisumu, with Thesis titled “Pharmacoeconomic study of the Impact of Adult Pneumonia on Households living in Nairobi”. He undertook a Post Graduate Diploma Program (in Health Economics and Management) of the University of Cape Town. Master of Pharmacy (Pharmaceutical Analysis and Chemistry), University of Nairobi (2003 – 2006).
