1-Dodecanethiol, also known as lauryl mercaptan (CAS 112-55-0, molecular formula C12H26S), is an industrial-grade long-chain alkanethiol traded by Shanghai Baojiarui Chemical Co., Ltd., which does not manufacture the compound itself. It is a colorless to pale yellow liquid used as a chain-transfer agent in radical polymerization, a surface modifier for gold nanoparticles and quantum dots, and an anti-wear or corrosion-inhibiting lubricant additive, typically supplied at 98%+ purity; it is currently sold into the Asian market.
