Marketed by Novartis as Signifor (SOM230), it is an orphan-designated somatostatin analog approved in the US and Europe for Cushing's disease in patients who are ineligible for or have failed surgery, distinguished by roughly 40-fold greater affinity for somatostatin receptor 5 than other analogs in its class.
