Laboratory Analyst

I currently work as a Laboratory Analyst in the Toxicology Laboratory within the Pathology Division at the Backweston Laboratory Campus located in Celbridge, County Kildare which is operated by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM). The Toxicology Laboratory provides diagnostic support namely in the detection and quantification of metals, present in their elemental form, in trace, meso or macro levels within animal specimen samples submitted. I am at present engaged in a research master's degree project supported by DAFM and Athlone I.T aimed at developing a High-Throughput Multi-Element ‘Dilute and Shoot’ Method for the Detection and Quantification of Zn, Fe, Mg, P, K, Ca & Na by ICP-OES for Application in Clinical Analysis of Animal Serum and Vitreous Humour. This application of ICP-OES as a tool in animal clinical diagnosis is a novel area of research which requires further exploration.
