職務要約
Scientific work performed by Gian Maria Pacifici
Gian Maria Pacifici holds the permanent position of Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the Medical School, of the University of Pisa, Department of Translational Research and New Technologies in Medicine and Surgery, Section of Pharmacology, Pisa, Italy.
He has published 193 articles on peer-scientific journals, including some chapters for books.
He co-edited, with Dr. G.N. Fracchia, European Commission (Brussels, Belgium), a book entitled “Advances in Drug Metabolism in Man” (EUR 154139 EN - ISBN 92-827-3982-1) in 1995. It was published by the European Commission (Brussels, Belgium) and it was identified as a textbook on the metabolism of drugs in man, and the European Commission, freely distributed it to all Departments of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology to the five continents.
He co-edited, with Prof. Olavi Pelkonen, Oulu, Finland, a book entitled “Interindividual Variability in Human Drug Metabolism” (ISBN 0-7484-0864-9). It was published by Taylor & Francis, London EC4P 4EE (UK), in 2001.
He co-edited a book, with Prof. Michel Coughtrie, Dundee, Scotland, entitled “Cytosolic Human Sulfotransferase” (ISBN 0-415-28462-7). It was published by CRC Press, Taylor & Francis Group, 6000 Broken Sound Parkway NW, Suite 300, Boca Raton, FL, USA, 33487-2742. In 2005.
Gian Maria Pacifici has been the Italian Delegate at the European Commission (Brussels, Belgium) for the following three actions:
1. Italian delegate at the European Commission for the action "Predicting and managing variability in the kinetics and effects of drugs during their discovery, development and use" in the frame of Co-operation in the Field of Scientific and Technical Research (Action COST B1).
2. Italian delegate at the European Commission for the action "Modelling in drug development" in the frame of Co-operation in the Field of Scientific and Technical Research (Action COST B15).
3. Italian delegate at the European Commission for the action “Physiologically based pharmaco-toxicokinetics and dynamics” in the frame of Co-operation in the Field of Scientific and Technical Research (Action COST B25).
It 1994-1997 GMP was the coordinator of the Concerted Action entitled: “Identification of early factors in the variability of drug metabolism in man” in the frame of “Biomed Project”, Contract BMH1 CT94-1622 (European Commission, Brussels, Belgium).
GMP was the Councillor of the International Society for the Study of Xenobiotics (ISSX), Washington, DC USA 20036, for the period January 1990 to December 1993.
GMP was the Member of the “Financial Committee” of the International Society for the Study of Xenobiotics (ISSX) Washington, DC USA 20036, for the period 1993 to 1998.
GMP worked in the Institute Mario Negri, in Milan (Italy), in the Laboratory of Clinical Pharmacology for three years during the period 1971 to 1974. GMP worked in several of the best Departments of Clinical Pharmacology in the world. In particular, he worked at the Department of Clinical Pharmacology in London, (UK) (Hammersmith Hospital, The Royal Postgraduate Medical School), in Oxford (UK), in Liverpool (UK), in Stockholm (Sweden), in Uppsala (Sweden) and at Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minnesota, USA).
Gian Maria Pacifici has received 10 international fellowships which are listed below:
1. The British Council, London, Great Britain (1978-1979).
2. The Stiftelsen Blanceflor Boncompagni-Ludovisi, Stockholm, Sweden (1979-1980).

7. The European Science Foundation, Strasbourg, France (1985).
8. The European Science Foundation, Strasbourg, France (1986).
9. CNR (Rome, Italy) and The British Council (London, Great Britain) (1987).
10. CNR (Rome, Italy) and The British Council (London, Great Britain) (1989).
Before switching to the study of the clinical pharmacology of the drugs which are administered to neonates, GMP published more than 50 articles on the metabolism of drugs in the human fetus.
In 1983, GMP obtained the PhD at the Department of Clinical Pharmacology, at Karolinska Institutet, Huddinge Hospital, (Stockholm, Sweden) defending the Academic Thesis entitled “Epoxide detoxification pathways in the human fetus”.
At present, the main scientific interest of Gian Maria Pacifici is the study of the clinical pharmacology of the drugs which are administered to neonates.
