Professional Biography: Dr. Lynda Audrey Allan Dr. Lynda Audrey Allan is a Lecturer in Health and Biomedical Sciences at the Technical University of Kenya with over 10 years of experience in biomedical research, higher education, and public health engagement. She holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences [Immunology], a Master of Science in Immunology. Early Career Research Focus and Innovative Contributions: Her research spans immunological responses to vaccines in the context of parasitic infections, the efficacy of alternative medicine, and quality assessments of blood products. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals such as Elsevier among other Scientific Journals and was awarded a competitive research grant by the National Commission for Science and Technology. Dr. Allan is actively involved in curriculum development, postgraduate supervision, and interdisciplinary research. She is also a member of the Gender Mainstreaming Committee at TUK. Her current focus includes advancing biomedical science communication by integrating digital tools, AI, and ethical health journalism into academia. Through prospective fellowship initiatives, she aims to bridge the gap between complex scientific research and public understanding, aligning her work with Kenya’s national development goals and the Sustainable Development Goals [SDGs]. Particularly SDGs 3, 4 and 5. Dr. Allan is deeply committed to academic innovation and educational reform. She has played a central role in developing curricula for biomedical science programs and aspires to initiate a Biomedical Journalism Course Program in Kenyan institutions of higher learning. In her endeavor to integrate health communication into academic curricula, Dr. Allan aims to produce graduates who not only understand the science but can also effectively communicate it to policy makers, healthcare providers, and the general public. Health Science Communication and Motivation for Fellowship: In an era where misinformation can compromise public health responses, Dr. Allan is particularly motivated to bridge the gap between scientific research and public understanding. She reflects a strong desire to strengthen science communication capabilities. She envisions becoming a conduit between the scientific community and the public by demystifying complex biomedical concepts. She recognizes the need for professionals in Kenya who can communicate science in a clear, accessible, and ethically grounded manner, particularly in reporting on medical research, public health crises, and innovations in healthcare. Her vision includes incorporating digital tools, artificial intelligence, and machine learning into health journalism education. This program would explore the role of digital tools in enhancing the visibility of biomedical research. She believes that investing in these capacities will help create a generation of biomedical journalists adept at using data visualization, storytelling, and multimedia platforms to inform and educate diverse audiences.
