Graduate Researcher

Tiago Silva is a Biomedical Engineer specializing in biomedical instrumentation, medical device development and surgical robotics. He holds an MSc in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Coimbra, with a master’s thesis at the Surgical Robotics Laboratory of the University of Twente on an acoustically actuated microcapsule for targeted liquid biopsy. His expertise includes design, modeling, and experimental validation of minimally invasive robotic systems, integrating magnetic actuation, acoustic streaming, microfluidics, and image-based flow analysis. As a Research Assistant at INESC TEC, he contributed to projects in biomedical instrumentation, including the development of wearable ECG acquisition systems and prototype medical devices. He has experience in CAD/FEM, ECAD, Python, MATLAB, C/C++, ROS, and interdisciplinary collaboration. His research interests focus on medical and surgical robotics, including sensing, dexterous actuation, image-guided control, and experimental validation of minimally invasive robotic systems.
