British supermarket chain with its head office at Leeds, founded in 1949 from the merger of the Asquith butchers with Associated Dairies and owned by Walmart from 1999 until it was sold to TDR Capital and the Issa brothers in 2021. Runs hundreds of superstores, supermarkets and convenience shops together with an online grocery service, and sells medicines, vitamins and health products through in store pharmacy counters and its own label health and beauty ranges.
