American charitable foundation in Seattle, Washington, created in 2000 by Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates and one of the largest private foundations in the world, with offices in Washington DC, London, Delhi, Beijing, Abuja, Addis Ababa and Johannesburg. Funds global health work in malaria, tuberculosis, HIV, neglected tropical diseases, enteric and diarrhoeal disease, maternal and newborn health, nutrition and vaccine delivery, supports Gavi, the Global Fund and product development partnerships that create new medicines, vaccines and diagnostics for low income countries, and also funds global development, agriculture and United States education programmes.
