Californian company founded in 1990 at Palo Alto and later San Carlos, which pioneered the delivery of proteins and peptides as dry powders breathed into the lung and developed the Exubera inhaled insulin system with Pfizer. Renamed Nektar Therapeutics in 2001, it added particle engineering and polymer conjugation technologies and now works on immunology treatments from San Francisco.
