British research institute on the Norwich Research Park, founded in 1910 as the John Innes Horticultural Institution and supported by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council. Carries out research in plant and microbial science, including the genetics and biosynthesis of natural products, antibiotic discovery from Streptomyces, metabolic engineering of plants for medicinal compounds and crop improvement, runs shared genomics and metabolomics facilities and trains doctoral students with the University of East Anglia.
