Research arm of Microsoft, founded in 1991 with its main laboratory at Redmond in Washington and further laboratories in Cambridge in England, Cambridge in Massachusetts, New York, Montreal, Beijing, Bangalore and Amsterdam. Carries out research in artificial intelligence and machine learning, systems and programming languages, human computer interaction, quantum computing and social science, and runs a health futures group working on biomedical artificial intelligence, medical imaging, genomics, clinical language models and DNA data storage with hospital and pharmaceutical partners.
