National Institute for Materials Science

Japanese national research institute at Tsukuba in Ibaraki prefecture, formed in 2001 from the national research institute for metals and the national institute for research in inorganic materials. Works on structural and functional materials, nanomaterials, magnetic and electronic materials, energy and environment materials and biomaterials for medical devices and drug delivery, runs large shared instruments and materials databases and works with Japanese industry and universities.
